It is difficult enough to start a journey in martial arts, it is entirely more so to then step up and compete in it. That is precisely what happened last weekend as coach Damien Nitkin and Elizabeth Gordon led four of Fight Capital 's very own Youth Foundation ladies to represent themselves and their team at the BJJ Tour.
With nerves of steel and a little pep talking from their coaches, Leyla Alvarez and Jace Castro would capture the gold, this being their second gold medal and competition of the year. Making their competition debut, Leyla's older sister Alexa Alvarez and teammate Jeslynne Robledo would bring home the silver, each having faced tough opponents in the finals but putting on an exciting display of technique and skill none the less. The excitement didn't end there, as both Jace and Jeslynne were promoted on the podium to grey belt for their impressive performance, display of technique, and courage to compete. These young ladies are sure to continue to do impressive things and are anxious to compete again in the future under the Fight Capital Gym banner. Also having competed later that day, coach Damien would bring home the gold in both the brown belt 195 lb division as well as the absolute division. Coach Beth would follow this up with two golds of her own in both her weight class and absolute division.
